A Filipino mix is a person of mixed Filipino and non-Filipino ethnicity. Filipino mixed are not uncommon in the Philippines, but they may face more discrimination within the wider society. The term has been used to describe mixed marriages, where both partners are either Filipino or foreign-born. 


Growing up filipino and other culture As a mixed cultural background, it can be hard to find your place in society. It’s not always easy to fit into the dominant culture, and you might have experienced some discrimination because of it. People are often suspicious of Filipino American because they don’t speak the same language or share the same customs.

Growing up as a filipino is difficult. With a history of colonisation and constant discrimination, it’s not always easy to find your place in the world. You don’t grow up with a sense of belonging to something, or that you fit into society with ease. It’s something you have to fight for, and some struggle more than others. It doesn’t help that growing up as a filipino can also be isolating at times. With so many different ethnicities, dialects and cultures within our community, it can all feel like a foreign place sometimes. But there are ways to make even the most challenging times a little bit easier to deal with. 

Growing up as a Filipino American means knowing where you come from and embracing your culture—no matter how much other people might hate it or reject you for being who you are. Culture is something that should be celebrated, not hidden away or ostracised—and growing up as Filipino American means being proud of your roots and what they represent. Filipino-American is a term used by Filipinos in the United States to describe themselves. In addition to identifying as Filipino, they may or may not also identify as American. Most Filipino-Americans are not of pure Filipino descent. Instead, they are of mixed Asian and European heritage, including those with partial Spanish ancestry, due to the Philippines being colonized by Spain for 300 years starting in 1565 until it was ceded to the United States in 1898.
